Portugal: In very city and village there is a treasure of old buildings and doors with peeling paint and windows with tattered curtains, in a range of colours, all accented with deep shadow....a feast for the eyes. Now I am back in The Netherlands, finded that 'faded beauty' is a bit more of a challenge.

The Algarve: long stretches of sandy beaches dotted with small wooden fishing vessels, with the abandoned boats, melancholy and decaying into wrecks, possessing a particular beauty

In Portugal, I painted mainly views of the villages and the hills. In Flevoland, it's all about capturing the wide vistas, the flower fields, the clouds and the varigated greens of the countryside.

The beauty of still life painting is that you have the pleasure of rummaging about in flea markets for intriguing objects, arranging them in a composition and then working with the light and shadow, the colours and the textures. Sure, you can look at still life as being dead-still, but on the other hand...

My subjects: Dogs devotedly wagging their tails, cats purring contentedly, chickens scratching in the yard, birds, colourful fish, an emu, a llama with an unexpected look in the eye. In short, the wellspring of my joy in painting.
